曾经名震加贺藩的剑术师傅的斑目久太郎（北村一辉 饰），被人称作“斑鬼”。然而他早已威风不再，为求生计而告别妻女，独自来到江户寻找新的门庭。人生最落魄的时候，斑目盘桓在江户的长屋中，考糊雨伞勉强度日。这一天，几个流氓找上门来。对方来自米泽一家，米泽一家的老大爱狗如命，三十年前曾和亲猫派的相泽一家结下梁子。如今新的奉行是亲猫派，甚至因此要和相泽结下猫亲家。为了避免被倾轧的命运，米泽一方花五两雇佣斑目杀掉对方老大的爱猫玉之丞。人穷志短，斑目结下这桩不入流的委托，当他高高举起武士之刀时，却被玉之丞超萌的大眼睛所融化…… 本片为同名电视剧的剧场版。
